cookies. if there is a cookie and the user logs in and they don't match, they will get logged. Its a very simple system, not meant to be "fool proof" but a first line sort of thing.

Like i said, its not meant to be fool proof, it is just a simple system to try to catch dupes. There are other methods to validate against, but they aren't always reliable, and then there are some that can actually get your site tagged as "malicious" for doing them, so i thought it was in my and your best interest to keep it simple and unobtrusive as possible.

@Michael Hi,

Is it a normal situation, when the account is logged without showing, who are the alts for this account? How to understand it? Could you please explain, why sometimes there are alts shown, and sometimes not? Here are two examples:

versus:

Okay new version installed. Thanks.

I wonder if it might be possible to designate one or more persons to receive a notification every time a duplicate is logged. That would be very handy

Maybe I've got it wrong. I meant that duplicates could be flagged up to particular members of the site team. I'm not talking about notifications to the person whose cloning.

Is that what you understood?

you can exclude an entire group or individual people from being flagged.

for groups you can exclude them in cjdml settings.

for individual members, you can go to their acp profile and edit the preferences to exclude them:

you can also leave a note there, that explains why they are being excluded.

Okay. Thanks for this very quick response.

I think we will talking at cross purposes.

On an old clone logger which we used to use on vBulletin, the site team automatically received an email notification (rather the same as reported posts) that a clone had logged on and gave us a link.

This was very useful because it meant that the site team didn't have to keep on remembering to refer to the logs every day and also we would catch people as soon as it happened and then we could check to see whether we had a troublemaker. (Unfortunately we have quite a few troublemakers)

If you do a future version, then something like that would be really helpful.

i think you misunderstood my reply, i was talking about a notification being sent to people marked as a moderator in the acp about duplicates being logged, it is not the same notifcation that is sent to the user doing the duplicate.

yes it sends notifications to the moderators of the site of duplicates. the duplicates show up in the acp, but the same interface can be access in the moderator control panel as well (so those who don't have access to the ACP can still manage the duplicates).

Right, thanks again. Clearly there is no miscommunication. That's exactly what I meant so I'm sorry for confusing the issue.

I'm going to have another look again to see if I can find the settings

Well I can't find the settings. While the notifications being sent to the site team automatically? Or does one have to set it? If one has to set it, where are the settings please.
