Mention

Closed 2.8.8 2.8.9

Hi,

Mention is not working as ipb mention. Just whisper. But in the same time if we'll have notificatin from ipb will be perfect. So also for setup it should be ipb notification list .

What exactly is it closed?

its an automated process the the system does on its own to notify me.

I don't always respond to these, if i can't reproduce the issues. mentions work:

this is from another support issue about case sensitivity of the the mention. as for notifications, do you meant the little bell notifications or browser notifications?

Not the little bell notification. I can't listen bells during the day. And not browser notification. I meant simple ipboard notificaions.

For example is somebody write my name @Tunbay than i should see it on

When i open the list " Babble: Michael sen you a message

or something else whatever.

@Thomas Douscha this is ipboard mention format than if i should have notify on notification list it would be great. I meant that @name should work as ipb mention and i should have notification on the list.

Thanks

yeah, the inline notification (the little bell icon). so you want babble to alert you via a inline notification if you get mentioned?

I mean i've thought about this before, but i never included it in babble, cause of it's nature. it would be too intensive imho to figure out if the person being mentioned is in that room or not, cause it would get rather annoying fast, if you were in the room and IPS was also notifying you that you were being mentioned in the room. plus there would be other minor issues to work around, like loading the chat to the point of where the mention was made, this as well could be extremely server intensive, if the chat history wen far enough back, and in my experience i've seen chat histories go back several thousand messages in just a few hours, especial if the topic that is getting discussed is a heated one or one of a lot of interest. so all in all, i really don't think inline notifications are really a good fit for babble.

if a strong enough case can made for them, or the demand is high enough, i would reconsider, but right now i don't really see them making it into babble in the near future.

Regards,

Michael

I do not agree with you. Even i can you are completely wrong about it.

In my forum and portal: https:www.planetdp.org  i had some experiences and user claims thatswhy i opened it this report. Maybe more than 30-40 users asked me that we can add other user as mention but we don't have inline notification. Somebody advised me that chat module :

image.thumb.png.8f667e53536d461d8f6135c7a6f16294.png

mention and inline notification is working on it. People told me so. That means much more integrated with ipb than yours. I have bought it in a few days i will test it.

Actually even i should not explain you why should be some options of ipb as inline notification or some others. Because this is chat module under ipboard. How much integrated with ipb' options as much as good.

Also i agree with users. Because i missed many chat messages and then sent me pm did not you see the my message? But if i see mention of inline notification somethings there , i would not miss it. Yes some times i also thought about that.

Other chat app is really very good. But what i did not like : it is ajax. And yours using port. Thatswhy i preferred your babble. But in the same time i expect much more integration with ipb.

So it is up to you and your choice.

Thanks

Thomas

not really a good way to start off a message meant to change my mind by telling me i'm wrong and to tell me how much more wonderful an another chat app has 1 feature babble doesn't  (but missing many features babble already has).

Babble started off as a project to reduce the resource load of ajax based chats, which the other chat is, along with the chatbox app. I've tried my best to keep to that mandatae.

you and your community seems to have a different needs than what babble is designed to do. to me, a chat is a quick and temporary communication, not long term storage or a replacement for PM's, forums, blogs, etc.

I will think about this, but it is not a promise or even guarantee that i will change my mind on it. I just get a feeling if i did add this, i will get 30 clients coming out of the woodwork and complain about it.

:D

Unbeliaveble!

That is an option. Who does not want it they can disable it.

I didnot have time to look at another chat app. But my people say that it can do everything. whisper mention inline notification private room widget room. All things. But they did not like design view of it. It can be fixed by css may be.

By  the way it is up to you . It is your business.

I said what we need and our motto. I will not say anymore.

Thanks

Thomas

I've added this to 2.8.9, there are 2 settings for it. the first one is in ACP->Babble->Configuration->General on the general tab, it is called inline notifications. this will allow the site admin to disable them for everyone if they see fit. then there is a user setting in babble's user settings panel, for them to disable them without having to disable mentions/quotes notifications for the suite site wide.

they do not work in whispers in this version, as i have a planned upgrade for whispers in the 2.9 branch, that will bring this feature along with many improvements to whispers.
