Installing Babble

5 posts in this topic

Hey everyone.

I'm not very tech savvy, and I'm really worried about IP Chat being shut down next year. I've looked into Comet Chat, but I'm not overly keen on the lay out though it's simple to set up *for an ugly price*

I would love to install Babble, but being a complete noob at this sort of stuff, I'm worried I'll ruin my site instead.

Does anyone have a very simple guide to set Babble and Node up? I have no idea what to do at all.

Thanks in advance,

nodejs is fairly easy to setup if it is your servers OS's repo.

like for ubuntu/debian it is would be as easy as:

apt-get upddate && apt-get install nodejs npm

for CentOS is a bit more complicated:

https://nodejs.org/en/download/package-manager/

go here and scroll down to "Enterprise Linux and Fedora".

If you have a "managed server" you should be able to contact your host and have them help with the installation of node.js.

Once it is installed, babble is very easy to get setup. it installs just like any IPS application, its the babble.js (the nodejs script) that requires the additional steps.

This tutorial will direct you how to accomplish this.

I am still working on a service version of babble once version 3 is out i'll be opening it back up to more people to test.

Regards,

Michael

I bought Babble 2.2.4 and installed but now I'm completely stuck. I'm glad I'm not the only one. My tech skills have gone downhill the last few years. My site is hosted with IPBoard cloud community. I don't know what node.js even is nor do I have FTP access anymore. What do I do from here? Do I contact IPB support or can you guys help a lady out?

Thank you!
