Version 3 so far part 2

Michael

http://www.screencast.com/t/NJdvngYZX

this shows the progress of 3 so far:

  • message grouping
  • online list with retained offline pm's
  • online list with offline coming online
  • message row with early styling

there are some bugs in the video that you can see :) can't make it perfect and let you all think i'm a coding god or something :)

let me know what you think of it below :)

edit:

2016-12-11_1432

gave messages rows some background colors, rounded the edges and gave it a stem.

Version 3 looks cleaner than version 2 - so yepp I like it :)

I still prefer the timestamps to be on the right of the text not interrupting the discussion (same for usernames / avatars). Are there also plans for something like @Mentions? I'm not sure if my users will understand "whispers" - but we will see. I'm going to replace IPB Chat with Babble in the next week or so

Thanks a lot!

in version 2 you can do @member and it will make the message background a different color (by default its this "red" color), you can change it via css, but the message will be pulbic.

in 3 if you disable "avatars" in the settings, the name/timestamp will appear like it does now for the first one, but if they are "grouped" it will appear on the right hand side when hovered over.

I'm also not sure if i am going to be keeping the live updating of the relative times, just might just have it calculate the local time. not sure yet, have had a few complaints that it eats up a battery on a mobile device doing updates like that, we will see tho, might make it a user setting.

I think for me I prefer the avatar's removed and the timestamps on the right as mentioned above.   How does the online / offline look without the use of avatars?

thanks for the update

I like the online list without the Avatars best.  It's simplified and the member names are aligned centered to the online dot.

Whether you place the timeline on the right or left they should be greyed out along with announcements such as membername entered the room, membername left the room/ conversation separate from the conversation.  Maybe the font height of the timeline should be smaller than the normal text too.

The settings panel looks good.  The only thing that I noticed missing is a button to leave the room. Possibly located bottom right next to the other 2 buttons.

I may have missed it, but what is the ETA for version 3?

I'd like to try it out in Beta if possible. As long as it doesn't break the forum, haha. If there are Beta testers, any requirements?

I hope to have it ready by mid march, but i hate giving ETA's as i always missing them lol.

I have an alpha of it up here, but there are a lot of things that do not work unfortunately :( I'll be working on it tomorrow maybe i can get it to "beta" status by then.

Any updates on the horizon? Administrators still cannot edit messages, and some other nagging bugs. I'm really looking forward to the new version.

sorry must've missed this. :(

i was recovering form an illness and it threw everything into the works into some delays, and now with the 4.2 on the horizon, i'm thinking of releasing 3 shortly after that, but setting up the service stuff now for 2, so things are still rolling.
